A woman from Phagwara has alleged that her in-laws threw her out of the house after she gave birth to a girl child.

Speaking at a press conference here on Monday, she also alleged that she was tortured for dowry by her in-laws since her marriage. She said she married Deepak Kumar, a resident of Basti Guzan, on October 29, 2012, and her in-laws started pressuring her to bring more dowry as it was less than their expectations.

She also alleged that after the birth of baby child  the atrocities of her in-laws increased as they wanted a baby boy. Her in-laws also demanded Rs. 50,000 from her father as her husband wanted to go abroad.

She further alleged that a complaint was made to Phagwara police but the police failed to take any action due to political pressure and they had not registered a case against her in-laws even after several complaints including on 181 helpline.

Contacted, SP Phagwara Gursewak Singh said that he was not aware of the particular complaint and he might have referred this complaint for inquiry.
