Swati was an engineer and tied the knot with Kunal Aggarwal, the son of a construction company owner, on October 28, 2010, and the couple had a one-year-old son.

Suman Kumar Gupta, the father of the deceased, and a resident of Ludhiana, on Friday submitted his complaint to the police alleging that his daughter was being harassed by her-in-laws for bringing less dowry since her marriage.

On the complaint filed by the father of the deceased, the police had booked the deceased's husband, her father-in-law, mother-in-law and brother-in-law under Section 304-b (dowry death) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

“My wife was annoyed with me over some petty issue. On Thursday night, she handed over our son to Raghuvir, our servant and went upstairs. Thereafter, she locked herself in the toilet of washroom and hanged herself,” Kunal said.

At the time of the incident, reportedly, both Kunal and her mother Shashi Aggarwal were at home.
“We tried to resolve their differences several times and we were hopeful that everything was going normal between them,” Suman Kumar Gupta, father of the deceased said.

“Late on Thursday night, we were informed that my daughter had tried to hang herself. But after reaching the spot we were told that she had died,” he said.

“It is a clear case of murder. There were sign of injuries of manhandling on the body of my daughter. Sign of blood was also there on her ears. It is all a plotted murder posed as suicide by her in-laws,” Gupta said.

The police have arrested Kunal Aggarwal (husband), Anil Aggarwal (father-in-law), Shashi Aggarwal (mother-in-law). Tarun Aggarwal (brother-in-law) is still absconding.

“Raids are being conducted to arrest Tarun. Further investigation will be conducted after the post-mortem report,” assistant commissioner of police Manpreet Singh said.
