A Raipur Ballan village resident has alleged that the division number 1 police station detained him illegally for three days and released him after taking Rs. 5 lakh. He alleged that ACP Balkar Singh was present when he handed over the money for his 'release'. He also alleged that the conspiracy was masterminded by Jalandhar North MLA, KD Bhandari.

While addressing media persons here today, Manjinder Singh, a Sikh preacher by profession, said: “I was taken into custody by a police team lead by ASI Jassa Singh from division number 1 police station on January 19 at 5.30 am. On January 21, he was shifted to division number 8 police station and later to division number 3 police station, where ACP Balkar Singh forced me to pay Rs. 5 lakh to village sarpanch Pardeep Kumar and took his signatures.”

A land deal gone sour between Manjinder's cousin Kulpreet Singh and Satish Kalia, an industrialist was the trigger behing his troubles, he claimed.

Station House Officer of division number 1police station Balbir Singh and ACP Balkar Singh rubbished the charges.

“A complaint against Manjinder was marked by Jalandhar police commissioner to the local police station for inquiry. He was called to the police station for a routine inquiry,” said the SHO.

“Manjinder Singh and his cousin had taken nearly 62 lakh from the complainant by forging some documents in a sale deed. The matter was resolved in the presence of panchayat members and Manjinder Singh returned Rs. 5 lakh as a compromise,” he added.

“We have records of all the proceedings of the police. Manjinder failed to comply with the conditions of compromise and presented himself before the media after concocting a false story,” said ACP Balkar Singh.

When contacted, Jalandhar North MLA, KD Bhandari, said “The party, which bought the land after paying nearly Rs. 60 lakh to them, belongs to my constituency and he complained to me. I simply forwarded the complaint to Jalandar police commissioner for necessary action and inquiry. Beyond this, I had no role to play. All the allegations are baseless. Law will take its own course.”
