The first ICCR scholars from Islamic Republic of Afghanistan were on Wednesday felicitated by Balwant Thakur, regional director of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), ministry of external affairs, on their arrival in Jammu.

Both the scholars - Rohullah of Kapisa (Kabul, Afganistan) and Mohammad Jafar Tanin of Bamyan City (Afghanistan) have won the ICCR scholarships to undergo MSc agricultural economics and MSc plant breeding genetics, respectively, at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology here.

Welcoming them in Jammu, Thakur said with the coming of ICCR in Jammu, the educational institutions here would become a global destination of education.

Earlier a scholar from Namibia (Africa) had also sought the admission in SKUAST under an Africa scholarship programme of ICCR.
