Congress leader Abdul Gani Vakil on Monday claimed that the Congress was the only party that could handle serious challenges faced by the nation.

"History is witness to the fact that the Congress-led coalition governments have proved successful despite severe economic constraints and challenges on different fronts,"he said.

Addressing public meetings in Banihal and Ramban, he said it was the only party that could provide a strong and result-oriented government by cementing ties with its secular allies."

"If any party, other than the Congress, comes to power at the Centre, the mid-term polls are inevitable,"he added.

He said, "Even the BJP got a chance to rule the country, but resulted in a period of uncertainty as a result of which the growth was hampered."

Appealing people to vote for Ghulam Nabi Azad, he said Azad carried out massive development in the state when he was chief minister.

The Congress leader said as a union minister Azad had sanctioned five new medical colleges, many hospitals to the state.
