Traffic was temporarily suspended on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway on Thursday due to leakage from a gas tanker which turned turtled near Jawahar tunnel here.

"A LPG tanker turned turtle at the Titanic Post near the tunnel on the highway at around 11 pm last night," a Traffic Department spokesman said.

The tanker skidded downhill and started leaking the gas, following which the authorities decided to suspend traffic on the 294-km arterial highway, the only all-weather road connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, he said.

The traffic was suspended on the highway after the incident and authorities swung into action to prevent spread of the gas, he said, adding that the traffic would be allowed to ply on the highway in the afternoon.
