A local court has sent Soni Kumar and Vishal Kumar, both kidnappers of nine-year-old Jasnoor, to two day police remand on Monday.
Both the accused lived in Jasnoor's neighbourhood and were residents of local Sant Nagar. The Navi Baradari police have been investigating three mobile phone sims recovered from the kidnappers to find out whether they were procured through fake documents or not. Both the kidnappers are allegedly drug addicts and hatched a plan to kidnap the boy when he was playing cricket on August 29.
Station house officer Palwinder Singh said the investigation was still on to find out details of mobile sims and the doubts would be cleared within a day.
Jasnoor's father Hardeep Singh, pathologist at the Phagwara Civil Hospital, said Vishal Kumar's family had contacted him to pardon their son but the crime committed by Kumar was not forgivable.
Singh said the family was shocked to find out that Kumar had kidnapped Jasnoor as Kumar's father had brought him few months ago to the doctor's house when he fractured his leg and got jaundice.
Jasnoor, a class 4 student of APJ School, Mahavir Marg, had gone for tuitions near his house on Sunday afternoon. His father received a call from one of the kidnappers around 2.30 pm that they had kidnapped Jasnoor and demanded a ransom of rs80 lakh. After cross checking that his son had indeed been kidnapped, Singh and his wife Pritma informed the police who traced the kidnappers' location using the mobile number.
Meanhwile, a vigilant citizen heard the kidnappers' conversation with Hardeep on Ladhewali road near the Guru Nanak Dev University regional campus. With knowledge of the kidnappers' location and their description given by the person who overheard them, the police nabbed the kidnappers in Ladhewali and took them in custody.
