A meeting of Khap leaders on Thursday reminded the government to fulfil its promise of giving reservation to the Jats in special backward persons (SBP) category in the state by bringing a legislation in the upcoming assembly session.

The meeting was held at Bohar village in the district where leaders of Nandal khap and Dalal khap participated.

Khap leaders said the recent statements of the Haryana government indicated that the government could postpone its move to bring a bill proving for Jat reservation in the assembly session. This would tantamount to taking a U-turn over the issue.

Mahendra Singh Nandal, head of Nandal khap said, “I have been closely observing the government’s statements and reading the newspapers. Many reports have said the government might not fulfil its promise during this session. We would like to advise the government not to delay the move to pass a bill for our reservation.”

He also said that various leaders on March 6 would pay tributes to those who were deceased in the violence during the stir.
