Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Avtar Singh Makkar on Tuesday condoled the death of seven pilgrims at the Sikh shrine in Manikaran in Himachal Pradesh (HP) following a landslide which also caused damage to the gurdwara.
In separate statements, Giani Gurbachan Singh and Makkar mourned the death of pilgrims and expressed solidarity with the bereaved families. They also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Makkar directed manager of Takht Keshgarh Sahib at Anandpur Sahib Sukhwinder Singh Grewal to immediately go to Manikaran with relief material and necessary medical supplies. He also asked Grewal to make necessary arrangements for shifting the injured to Chandigarh or any other place where good medical care is available.
The SGPC will also help families in transporting the bodies of the victims to their respective places. Makkar also asked Grewal to make an on-the-spot assessment of the damage caused to the shrine.
The SGPC is likely to provide assistance to the Manikaran gurdwara committee for repairing the damaged portion of the shrine.
