Setting a deadline of February 20 for bringing the Jats in the list of OBCs at the central level, Jat Sangharsh Samiti at Narwana in Jind on Thursday threatened to launch an agitation on rail tracks, if the government failed to meet their demands.
Notably, UPA government had sought recommendation of the National Backward Class Commission on extending OBC status to Jats in December 2013.
Tek Ram Kandela said that representatives of over 70 khaps have unanimously decided that the Centre government should issue a notification of including Jats in the OBC category at the central level by February 20, otherwise they would launch an agitation.
He said that the step taken by UPA government in December to seek recommendation of national backward class commission was praiseworthy, but now it's time for government to take action.
He said they were satisfied with reservation given by the state government to five communities including Jats, but their struggle would end once they get the same entitlement at the central level.
The samiti has threatened to block rail tracks in Delhi on February 23 in case their demands were not met.
