A 35-year-old woman on Tuesday drowned her three children in a water tank at her house in Barhana village of Jhajjar district and attempted suicide after she allegedly had a quarrel with her husband over his drinking habit.

While accused Nutan was saved by police, her three children Manvi, 5, Priti, 3, and Hardik, 3 months, died.

The police said the woman was upset at her husband Vinod’s drinking habit and had a fresh quarel with him when he came home drunk on Holi. At 3 am on Tuesday, she called up the police control room and said she was committing suicide with her children at her residence. The police said she abruptly cut the call thereafter.

When the police reached her home, they found that the woman had jumped with her three children in around 8-feet deep water tank at their house. While the police managed to save the woman by pulling her out of the tank, her three children had drowned by then.

They were rushed to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak, where the doctors declared them bought dead. Nutan was admitted in the hospital where her condition was reported to be critical.

The police said Nutan’s husband Vinod had gone to the terrace to sleep at night and only he came to know about the incident when the cops reached there.

The police said they have sent the bodies of the children for postmortem and have registered a case against Nutan on the complaint of her mother-in-law.
