Pathankot: Abandoned briefcase causes panic, found to be armyman’s

An abandoned briefcase, which caused panic in Pathankot on Tuesday morning, was later found to be of an army man who had left it behind by mistake.

An abandoned briefcase, which caused panic in Pathankot on Tuesday morning, was later found to be of an army man who had left it behind by mistake.

The violet-coloured briefcase was found at Simbal Chowk and was later dragged to an isolated place by the police .

It was later opened and was found to contain army dresses and an identity card of the army man to whom it belonged. The police acted with caution as the place where briefcase was found is near the ammunition depot gate.

SHO Rajinder Minhas of Mammun Cantonment area told HT that the briefcase has been claimed by the army man who was on transit period after his transfer to Yol Cantt. He had left it behind when he boarded a vehicle for Yol from Simbal Chowk.

He said the armyman was on the way back to take his brief case which will be handed over after some formalities. “As the city is on high alert, we are not taking any chances,” Minhas said.
