Jobs, easy loans for rural youth via ‘khadi villages’

The Punjab government will be setting up 25 ‘smart’ khadi villages, where youth from rural areas will get employment, said industry and commerce minister Madan Mohan Mittal on Wednesday.

The Punjab government will be setting up 25 ‘smart’ khadi villages, where youth from rural areas will get employment, said industry and commerce minister Madan Mohan Mittal on Wednesday.

The Punjab Khadi and Gram Udyog Board will also be providing easy loans worth Rs 140 crore to the youth of Punjab, under the Prime Minister Self-employment Generation Scheme, he said. Under the scheme, Rs 35 crore will be provided as subsidy to the beneficiaries for setting up of their own ventures. North India’s first multipurpose skill training centre will also be set up at SAS Nagar to equip the youth with latest know-how about entrepreneurship.

Kin of farmers who have committed suicide will be given priority under the scheme, said the minister.
