State joint secretary of the Congress, Shiv Verma, joined the BJP on Saturday. Local BJP MLA Manoranjan Kalia welcomed Verma. Kalia said that Verma's presence would boost the party's prospects in all 60 wards in the corporation elections, besides ward 28, the residence of Verma.
On the reasons for leaving the Congress in which he spent close to 25 years, he alleged that the Congress was no more a party of the common man.
Meanwhile, Kalia ruled out releasing a poll manifesto, specifically for the civic polls. He added that development was the key issue for the party.
