State joint secretary of the Congress, Shiv Verma, joined the BJP on Saturday. Local BJP MLA Manoranjan Kalia welcomed Verma. Kalia said that Verma's presence would boost the party's prospects in all 60 wards in the corporation elections, besides ward 28, the residence of Verma.

Meanwhile, Kalia ruled out releasing a poll manifesto, specifically for the civic polls. He added that development was the key issue for the party.
