The first phase of Rs 115-crore Durgiana Temple beautification project was inaugurated after ‘bhumi poojan’ in presence of a large number of devotees here on Thursday.
Punjab local bodies minister Anil Joshi, who inaugurated the works, said the first phase will cost around Rs 25 crore. “The project will promote tourism at the temple complex, thereby providing jobs to unemployed youths,” he said.
Accompanied by the temple managing committee office-bearers, the minister said the project will include a modern plaza, landscaping, musical fountains, open-air theatre, beautiful gate, light-and-sound show, auditorium, community hall and craft bazaar. “Electronic cars will also be introduced to eradicate pollution in the area. Apart from this, a big parking lot is also being constructed for convenience of the devotees,” said Joshi.
The minister said beatification project is underway in surrounding areas of the Golden Temple besides at the Ram Tirath shrine. All projects in the holy city will be completed soon, he said.
