The Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) Engineers association on Monday demanded a judicial probe into the suicide of deputy chief engineer of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) in Amritsar. The association members also decided to mark a state-level protest against PSPCL management on Tuesday.

Kamla Devi, wife of the deceased deputy chief engineer Balbir Singh, had also written a letter to the president of association while mentioning that she and her family were disturbed for the past one year due to the harassment meted out to Balvir.

Balbir had attempted suicide on Friday by consuming poison and died on Sunday in a private hospital in Amritsar.

Srar said that the association will hold a state-level protest at the head office of PSPCL to stop this injustice. Dr Raj Kumar Verka, vice-chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes had on Sunday demanded tough action against whoever had forced the officer to take the take the drastic step.
