The Yamunanagar police on Sunday arrested a juvenile for allegedly sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.
Both the victim and the accused belong to families of construction labourers and used to reside in adjoining houses.
Station house officer (SHO), Sadar, Harvinder Singh told HT on phone on Monday that the alleged crime took place on Saturday and a police complaint was lodged by the victim's parents on Sunday.
He said the medical examination of the girl confirmed that she was sexually assaulted. The SHO said the matriculation certificate of the accused confirmed that he was short of three months from attaining adulthood and was sent to the Borstal jail, a juvenile observation home, in Ambala.
"The victim alleged that on finding her alone at home, the accused dragged her to his house and sexually assaulted her. He had also threatened her if she told about the incident to anyone," said the SHO.
After committing the crime, the accused fled the house and was nabbed by the police on Sunday. "There is no mention of involvement or presence of any other person in the crime," said the SHO.
