A three-day Arogya sehat mela was inaugurated by Surjit Kumar Jyani, Punjab health minister, here on Friday.
Jyani blamed the changed lifestyle of the people for different health problems. "About 40 years ago, whenever someone fell sick, the physicians advised him to take good diet in the form of milk and butter, but, nowadays, the doctors first advised the patients to stop taking milk, ghee and butter. It is the result of the changed lifestyle, which is now lazy, sedentary and lacking any physical activity. It has led to many health problems," Jyani said addressing the gathering.
He said that 133 posts in the Ayurveda department have been filled and about 118 medicines are being provided free of cost in 16 empanelled hospitals for the treatment of cancer.
The live demonstration of Yoga was the star attraction among the gathering. He was accompanied by chief parliamentary secretary Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu and Mantar Singh Brar, Farikdot MLA Deep Malhotra besides others and Hussan Lal, MD, PHSC.
