Amloh police have booked a Kaithal-based priest for raping a woman from Chandigarh on the ploy of performing a religious ceremony.

The victim, who is a native of Sector 36 Chandigarh, in her complaint, said that her relative Raman Khanna had informed her that priest Prem Parkash, a resident of Kaithal district of Haryana, would be visiting his house on March 3 for performing a religious ceremony.

She also said that Raman had told her that during the religious ceremony the priest showers currency notes on his devotees.

Lured by the money she visited Raman's house in Amloh on March 4 and later the priest took her to a secluded room in the house for performing the ceremony and forcibly raped her despite her resistance.

The accused eloped from the scene after committing the crime, she added.

The police have registered a case under section 376 IPC and started investigations in the case.
