The police on Wednesday have arrested a man for allegedly sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl on April 25.
The accused has been identified as Rampal of Ramgarh, Jammu and Kashmir. He was working here as a labourer. Jagjit Singh Saroya, senior superintendent of police (investigation), said they had formed various teams to nab the accused.
"With the help of a photo, they have arrested the accused who was found roaming at the Kanjli road on Tuesday evening," he said.
The victim, a native of Bihar, was abducted by Rampal when she was sleeping with her mother under a shed outside a shop in Kapurthala vegetable market and left her on a railway track after raping her.
Jitni, victim's mother, alleged that Rampal had kidnapped her daughter. She said,"When I found my daughter missing in the morning, I along with other labourers went to find her and when we reached near the railway track Rampal was sexually assaulting her and later fled from the spot."
Doctor has confirmed rape after a medical examination of the victim.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered under sections 363, 366A, 376 and 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and 4 and 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act.
