District police have claimed to break a nexus of drug smugglers active since a long time by arresting three persons and recovered 1 kg heroin estimated to be worth Rs 5 crore in the market.
In a press conference held on Friday, Kapurthala SSP Inderbir Singh revealed that all these persons were under police surveillance since a long time and were nabbed on Thursday with a huge quantity of contraband.
"Sarabjeet Singh, Lovepreet Singh and Surinderpal Singh, all residents of Kapurthala were nabbed by police when they were carrying the contraband in their Ford Figo car bearing registration number PB-67-C-3544 at Kala Sanghian Road," SSP said.
Denying any previous criminal records, SSP said, all these accused were acting very smartly in the area and were out of police reach due to lack of adequate proofs but now we have sufficient evidences to nail them.
"The value of the contraband seized in international market is estimated to be worth Rs 5 crore and it was to be delivered in shape of small consignments in Kapurthala district and other parts of the state. Their modus operandi is being investigated and very soon we may arrest more of their associates," he added.
Police have arrested all these accused under different sections of NDPS act.
