Police have arrested a resident of Preet Nagar locality for murdering his 60-year-old mother on Sunday night, after an argument ensued over the closure of his workshop.

The accused Sarabjit Singh, alias Billa (35), and his aide Vishal Kumar, alias Shally (30), used sharp-edged weapons for the murder, the police claimed, after it found the body of the woman, Surjit Kaur (60), lying in a pool of blood on a bed at the Preet Nagar house on Monday morning.

As per the information, deceased was living with her son, as her three daughters were married. The police team that arrived on the spot was led by Superintendent of police (detective) Jagjit Singh Saroya.

"The body was recovered with deep cuts on the neck, head and other parts of the body and sharp-edged weapons had been used to kill the woman," a police official said.

SP Saroya said that suspecting the involvement of an insider, they interrogated the deceased's son and his aide.

"On sustained interrogation, they admitted that they had murdered the woman, as there was some dispute over running a car repair workshop between the son and the mother," he said.

Sources said that Sarabjit was a drug addict and used to fight with her mother. "Sarabjit wanted possession of the workshop but his mother was not ready to give all the property to him due to which he had murdered her mother," sources added.
