SAD Nawanshahr in-charge Satinder Kaur Kariha has said that the charges against her son-in-law Jagteshwar Singh Majithia of interfering in district party affairs were baseless.

On Wednesday, a meeting had turned stormy after some senior Akali leaders said Majithia had no right to address any party meeting in Kariha's absence. Kariha was not available as she was in Goa, attending the SAD-BJP's Chintan Shivir.

SAD general secretary and SGPC member Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, truck union president and SAD leader Jagjit Singh Lally and Harjit Singh Bhatti, the personal assistant of Kariha, had also objected to Majithia's virtual emergence as the incharge duting Kariha's absence.

However, Kairha on Friday claimed that leaders who opposed Majithia were actually dishonouring her family name and had vested interest to guard. She claimed that such behavior served no body and also went against Nawanshar MLA Jatinder Singh Kariha.

"All my relatives were working for the benefit of the party and nobody should oppose Majithia," she claimed.

"Panchayats, zila-parishads and municipal council elections are approaching and the party must unite and put up a good show."

However, local party leaders including SGPC member Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, senior leader Jagjit Singh Lally said that it might be family compulsions that were forcing Kariha to support Majithia, but they would not accept Majithia as party's leader.

Khalsa said, "Majithia is an outsider. If Kariha needs our support, Majithia must be asked to stop working for the party."

He categorically said, "The party is supreme, even over relationships. Majithia has no political base in Doaba, especially in Nawanshahr".

Lally also said that Majithia was not acceptable as a leader and only if was officially given a party position, would they wotk with him.

SGPC general secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhor said, "It is a family matter of Kariha."

Pawinder Singh Kariha said, "Majithia has no right to work in Nawanshahr. He has also threatened our senior leaders and we will not support him. I have lodged a complaint with the Nawanshahr SSP against Majithia."

Several Akali leaders also spoke against Majithia without naming him at the bhog ceremony of jathedar Sadhu Singh Mahal at Mahal Khurd village on Friday and claimed that they would not allow a person from Majha to to lord over them.
