Avtar Singh Karimpuri, president of Punjab unit of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), has resigned from the post, while accepting responsibility for the party's debacle in the recent assembly elections.

Party's Punjab affairs incharge Narendra Kashyap, in a press note issued here on Monday, said BSP president Mayawati had accepted the resignation.

Though the high command has not appointed any acting president to run affairs of the Punjab BSP, sources said Mayawati was likely to convene a meeting of the state leadership at New Delhi soon to choose the new state head.
