Karnal MP Ashwini Kumar Chopra recalls Kalpana Chawla

Local parliamentarian Ashwini Kumar Chopra 'Minna' on Sunday announced a financial aid of Rs 21 lakh for Lions Club for the purchase of an ambulance equipped with life saving equipments.

Local parliamentarian Ashwini Kumar Chopra 'Minna' on Sunday announced a financial aid of Rs 21 lakh for Lions Club for the purchase of an ambulance equipped with life saving equipments.

At a function to mark the 12th death anniversary of Kalpana Chawla, Chopra said that Karnal-born astronaut was an inspiration for the generations to come.

Kalpana, the first Indian-American astronaut and first Indian woman in space was one of the seven crew members killed in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster on February 1, 2003.

On the occasion, the MP said Kalpana had not only brightened the name of her city but India also by fulfilling her dream to enter space.

He lauded the role of Lions Club to give a facelift to the postmortem house at the upcoming Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College here and providing a refrigerator at the mortuary.
