Karnal MP Ashwini Kumar Chopra on Friday justified the BJP’s action against party MP Kirti Azad, who has been suspended for making insinuations against finance minister Arun Jaitley in the alleged Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) scam.
Talking to reporters in Karnal, Chopra said discipline was utmost important in the party and no one should cross the ‘Laxman Rekha’.
“Though I am not associated with the issue, I am of the firm opinion that breaching the party disciplinary is unacceptable. Kirti Azad should have been cautious in the regard,” said Chopra, an ex-Ranji cricket player.
Chopra was in the city to attend the birth anniversary function of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
The MP said Vajpayee was a statesman and his tenure as PM was seen as a milestone in the country’s development.
To a question, he supported the proposed hike in the salary of PMs.
On a threat call by the supporters of Jat reservation to suspend supplies of milk and water to the national capital, Chopra said the Manohar Lal Khattar government in Haryana would handle the situation effectively.
“No state would allow the law and order situation to deteriorate. If any group tries to turn violent, the state government must initiate appropriate action against them,” he said.
