Karnal trader held guilty of murder

Ram Kumar Kalyan, a city-based businessman, was on Friday convicted by a local court in a 2008 murder case. Two high profile families—Kalyan and lawyer Ranbir Singh — were involved in a legal battle.


Additional district and sessions judge Ajay Kumar Sharda held Kalyan guilty of murdering Shramveer, brother of his daughter-in-law Renuka, while his wife Om Lata was acquitted of all the charges.

Kalyan, who is known for his close links with Congress leaders and top raking policemen of the state, is also held guilty of attempting to murder his daughter-in-law.

Though the quantum of punishment will be pronounced on May 12, the judge ordered Kalyan to be arrested and lodging him in the district prison here.
