Shivani and Kartik Jindal put up a fine show to pocket twin titles on the concluding day of the 9th Ashwani Gupta Memorial badminton championship at the Tau Devi Lal stadium, Panchkula, on Sunday.
Shivani won the titles in the under-19 girls’ singles and women’s singles events. She defeated Devyanshi 21-16, 21-19 in the under-19 title clash. The women’s final was the repeat of the aforementioned event, with Shivani again lording over Devyanshi 21-16, 21-19.
As for Kartik, his first title came in the under-17 singles, with the champion bringing down Shubam 21-13, 21-18. Kartik, then, claimed his second crown of the day by defeating Abhhijot 16-21, 21-9, 21-9 in a nerve-wracking under-19 singles event.
In the other finals of the girls’ section, Devika got the better of Dhristi Duggal 21-5, 21-11 to claim the under-10 singles title.
The under-13 singles crown was claimed by Arshia who defeated Devika 21-16, 22-20. The corresponding doubles title was clinched by the pair of Ayushi and Devika after they beat Arshia and Anannya 21-8, 21-9.
In the under-15 singles final, Chavi ended the challenge of Tammana 21-9, 21-15 to lift the winner’s trophy.
In the under-17 singles final, Devyanshi got the better of Muskan 21-14, 21-11. The doubles title was pocketed by the pair of Chavi and Muskan, who got the better of Rashi and Tammana 20-22, 21-12, 21-19.
In the boys’ section, Jayan beat Sidarth 21-17, 21-16 to win the under-10 title.
In the under-13 singles final, Anushrav brought down Dhruv 21-13, 21-4. The corresponding doubles crown was also won by Anushrav, who in the company of Rahul Sikka, got the better of Summit and Dhruv 21-14, 21-7.
In the under-15 singles final, Devesh brought down Kartik 21-16, 21-19. The corresponding doubles event was won by Anushrav and Shiraj, who beat Rishab and Devesh 17-21, 21-17, 21-19.
In the under-17 doubles final, Rajat and Abhishek defeated Shubam and Viraj 21-17, 20-22, 21-6 to walk away with the top honour.
The men’s singles event was won by Gaurav Pahwa, who beat Kartik 18-21, 21-17, 23-21.
