Having failed to fill up its key posts lying vacant for the past some time, the Amritsar police now await the appointment of the new deputy commissioner of police (DCP).
The post fell vacant after Satpal Joshi retired on August 31. Even 10 days after the post fell vacant, the city awaits the new DCP.
Sources said though various police officers from the city were in the race for the coveted post, the government was yet to make an announcement.
As a temporary arrangement, ADCP headquarters KS Gill has been given the charge of the DCP by police commissioner Ram Singh.
Also, the post of ADCP city 1 has been lying vacant for the past three months. ADCP (crime) Harjit Singh Brar has been holding additional charge of the post.
The state government had appointed SP Lakhbir Singh as ADCP city 1 about three months ago, but the officer had not joined duty as yet. Though Lakhbir Singh had the orders, the Amritsar police commissionerate reportedly did not allow him to assume office.
Besides, the position of the DIG (Border Range) has also been lying vacant for the past two months.
