Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the ruling Congress look all set for a showdown during their political conferences on occasion of Gurta Gaddi Divas of Sri Guru Angad Dev Ji at Khadoor Sahib in Tarn Taran on Saturday.

This will be the second political gathering, after Rakhar Punia mela at Baba Bakala, in Punjab’s Majha region by major parties after the assembly polls.

Though chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh will not be attending the Congress rally, district administration and Congress workers were on their toes to ensure proper arrangements.

Captain was slated to visit Majha during the Rakhar Puneya mela at Baba Bakala but local bodies’ minister Navjot Singh Sidhu had to host the show.

Congress is likely to zero on achievements in its nearly six-month rule and will also list out its future plans. Cabinet minister Rana Gurjit Singh along with other local leaders are expected to attend the conference.

Sidhu, who has been the Congress’ main at most political rallies after the assembly elections, might remain absent.

The event will also be a popularity test for political parties, including Congress, before the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha by-poll and municipal elections.

Akalis leaving no stone unturned

Similarly, SAD, which ruled the state for a decade, is leaving no stone untuned. Former cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia and member parliament Ranjit Singh Barhampura are looking after the arrangements as the Akali top brass, including former deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, will be leading the Akali show.

All Akali leaders of the Majha zone, once a strong hold of the party, have been asked to mobilise huge crowd.

Sukhbir and Bikram Majithiya are likely to target Congress government on farmer suicides, debt waiver, jobs to youth and other unfulfilled pre-poll promises.

AAP plans huge show

AAP, which failed to even win a single seat in Majha, will be organising a huge show with the presence of top Punjab leaders including party unit chief Bhagwant Mann and leader of Opposition Sukhpal Singh Khaira.

AAP is likely to take on the both Congress and Akali Dal over nepotism.

SAD-A, CPI ready too

Shiromani Akali Dal-Amritsar (SAD-A) and Communist Party of India (CPI) will hold their rallies during the Gurta Gaddi Divas. They are likely to lash out on Congress and SAD.

SAD and Congress have been organising political conferences at Khadoor Sahib every year for four decades while CPI and SAD-A joined around a decade ago. This will be the AAP’s first political rally in Khadoor Sahib.

Devotees in lakhs visit to celebrate Gurta Gaddi Divas of Sri Guru Angad Dev at Khadoor Sahib every year.
