Bringing laurels to Khalsa College for Women, its athlete Khushbir Kaur has qualified for the World Walking Championship to be held in Russia in August.
She registered her walk timing at 1 hour, 37 minutes and 30 seconds at the Asian Walk Championship held in Japan, thus making herself eligible for the prestigious world event famous as “mini-Olympics”.
Delighted over her success, Khushbir said she would now focus on training under her Russian coach Alexander and Indian coach Gurdev Singh at the national Institute of Sports (NIS), Patiala.
Already a record holder in various national and international events, Khushbir was welcomed by KCW principal Dr Sukhbir Kaur Mahal on the college campus before she left for NIS on Tuesday.
“Khushbir is happy and so are we over her achievement. She is a great player and her aim is to represent the nation in the Olympics. The college will be honouring her at a special function shortly,” said Mahal.
A BA second year student, Khushbir said she had been working hard on her timing and would improve it further under the able guidance of coaches in Japan, where she would be going early next month for training.
