Preparations are on for celebrating the 350 years of the founding of Anandpur Sahib by Guru Tegh Bahadur.
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar said here on Saturday that the birth anniversary of the birthplace of Khalsa would be celebrated from June 17 to 19.
The SGPC has chalked out various programmes for the three days. On Saturday, Makkar chaired a meeting at Anandpur Sahib to review these arrangements.
Takht Keshgarh Sahib jathedar Giani Mal Singh; besides SGPC's general secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhaur; executive members Rajinder Singh Mehta and Karnail Singh Panjoli; secretary Manjit Singh; and additional secretary Daljit Singh Bedi were present. The SGPC has formed subcommittees for different arrangements. "Sikh historical sites in Anandpur Sahib are being restored," said Makkar, "to bring back some of the originality of these fortresses and gurdwaras."
The events during the three days will include seminars, 'kirtan darbars' and a sports festival. "The SGPC has requested the Punjab government to repair or relay the roads to Anandpur Sahib," said Makkar. Nagar Kirtan processions from Amritsar, Srinagar-Jammu, Paonta Sahib, Damdama Sahib (Talwandi Sabo) and Delhi will reach Anandpur Sahib. The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) is also involved in making the arrangements.
