On the second day of the District Open Rural Games underway at Guru Nanak Dev Stadium, Khanna block won overall Athletics Championship in the boys category by pocketing 50 points while Samrala and Doraha secured second and third positions by scoring 18 and 16 points, respectively.
Samrala girls came first by clinching 51 points, Jagraon and Machhiwara were declared second with 19 points each where as Doraha stood third with 15 points.In the kabaddi semi-finals, Ludhiana 1 boys defeated Samrala 51-37 and in the other match, Dehlon outplayed Raikot 48-13. In girls’ category, Raikot defeated Dehlon by 35-18 and Machhiwara got a walkover from Ludhiana-1.
Khanna topped the tally in weightlifting (boys) with 38 points whereas Samrala and Ludhiana-1 secured second and third positions with 24 and 15 points.
In girls’ category, Khanna clinched gold by 35 points while Samrala and Machhiwara got silver and bronze by making 17 and 15 points, respectively. In hockey(boys), Samrala defeated Ludhiana by 11-10 goals in the first semi-final match where as in the second, Ludhiana-2 defeated Sidhwan Bet by 8-6. In the girls category, Ludhiana-2 defeated Sudhar 4-3 and Sidhwan Bet defeated Ludhiana-1 by 3-1 goals.In wrestling boys Ludhiana-1 grabbed gold medal with 36 points, Khanna won silver with 31 while Dehlon won bronze by making 8 points.In basketball (boys), Khanna won gold by defeating Doraha 27-19 and in the girls category, Jagraon won gold by outplaying Doraha by 14-13.
The finals and prize distribution function will be held on Friday on National Sports Day.
