Though, Arvind Khanna's sudden decision to resign as Dhuri MLA, has dismayed his political supporters, but the businessmen turned politician was happy as he says that his move will help to bring development in Dhuri and Sangrur.
However, Khanna was hardly visible in Sangrur or Dhuri after winning election in 2012, but now he could be seen on social networking website of Facebook. In his recent upload on his Facebook page Khanna answered all the questions saying, "I am glad that my resignation will benefit the people of Dhuri and it will bring some much required
development for the region".
He however, raised a question over chief minister Parkash Singh Badal's claim that the ongoing Sangat Darshan programme in Dhuri is a routine process and should not be linked with by-election, saying, "I am glad that, even if it is for political reasons and (for) bypolls, with Sangat Darshan programme, Hopefully he (CM Badal) will give money towards much pending development projects that I have also requested in the past to the villages of Dhuri"
Though, Khanna has failed to keep his promises he made to the people of Dhuri during the last assembly polls, but he has requested the chief minister to continue the developmental works in Dhuri saying, "I would request the Honourable CM to also look at pending development works of the town, that have been raised at various times"
Putting a question mark Khanna has also made it clear that he will not contest any election and will not join any other political party, but will continue his services for people of Punjab and Sangrur.
However, the sudden decision of Khanna, who was considered as blue eyed boy of former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh, gave an opportunity to the critics who are demanding an explanation from Amarinder Singh.
"Khanna's resignation has affected the image of the Congress, but the question should have been asked to those, who had made him a congress leader", said Surinder Pal Sibia, vice president of PPCC.
According to sources Khanna is out of country, but he has also sent a message to staff members working in Umeed Foundation in Sangrur saying that they need not to be worried about their future, "All my dear friends - as you may know, I have decided to resign from active politics to focus on my family and business. I am not joining any political party. I thank you for all the love and support that I have received from you. I look forward to continuing to serve the people of Punjab and Sangrur in other capacities"
