Khanna resident gets 9-year jail in drug smuggling case

The court of special judge here on Tuesday awarded 9-year sentence to Bagga Singh (53), a resident of Galwaddi (Khanna) of Ludhiana district in a drug smuggling case.

The court of special judge here on Tuesday awarded 9-year sentence to Bagga Singh (53), a resident of Galwaddi (Khanna) of Ludhiana district in a drug smuggling case.


The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him and ordered that in case he failed to pay the fine, he will have to further undergo imprisonment for two months.

Bagga Singh was arrested by the Mandi Gobindgarh police on May 23 last year and a case was registered against him under section 15 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act .

A police party, headed by sub inspector Balwinder Singh, deployed at the Khalsa School turning point, Mandi Gobindgarh, had spotted coming on the road on foot and carrying a plastic bag on his head at about 6.00 pm.

On seeing the police party, he at once tried to turn back in a bid to escape from there. The police party suspected some foul play and followed him and got hold of hm.

On search of the bag, 15 kg poppy husk was recovered from him.
