Few days after the official declaration of BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's marital status in his election affidavit, a khap leader and a sarpanch of Bibipur village, Sunil Jaglan has started a campaign saying, "Modi, who talks about women empowerment, should first accept his wife with dignity."

Bibipur village caught the attention of media on July 14, 2012, after it had organised a mahakhap mahapanchayat for curbing female foeticide in the state.

On Friday, a gram sabha was organised by Jaglan, who was the ticket aspirant from the Aam Aadmi Party from Sonepat, in his village and the women present in the meeting concluded that Jashodaben, wife of Modi should get respect and dignity as his wife.

Talking to the Hindustan Times, Jaglan said that a signature campaign regarding the same has been started and over 250 women residents of the village had put up their signature supporting the cause. He said that the signature and their demand would be uploaded on Modi's official website soon.

On the reasons of running a campaign for Modi's wife, he said, "Modi's talks on women empowerment does not carry any weight, if his own wife, whom he married at an early age, has been devoid of her rights".

Referring to an interview in a newspaper, he said that Joshodaben had expressed her desire to get united with Modi, but she feared that she would not be accepted by him.
