The stage has been set for the meeting of khap panchayats of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Haryana, during which they would interact with research scholars to discuss honour killings at historical Meham Chabutara here on Wednesday.

Meham Chaubishi - an umbrella organisation of all khaps in the state - is going to put forward its viewpoint on killings for honour.

It is pertinent to mention here that khaps have always been accused of shielding the parents who are actively involved in killing of their wards for defying traditional norms with regard to marriages.

Sources said that research scholars from Panjab University, Delhi University, Gautam Buddha University, Noida; Jawaharlal Nehru University and Guwahati University have given their nod for participating in the event.

The event would be videographed and research scholars would share space with khap leaders and exchange views on the all-important issue, said Sunil Jaglan, a leader of Nogama khap.

Tulsi Grewal, a leader of Meham Chaubishi, said that it was for the first time that khap leaders sitting under one roof would discuss ways to curb honour killings.
