Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar appealed to the people of the state on Thursday to follow the dictum of 'vasudhaiva kutumbakam' and lay stress on unity in society for the overall development of the state.
Addressing the representatives of various khaps of the state at Haryana Bhawan, New Delhi, Khattar said people could contribute towards the development of the state only if they had common aims.
He urged people to rise above parochial differences of casteism and said the government wanted to ensure welfare of all sections of society. He added that promotion of moral education was necessary to eradicate social evils from society.
Khattar said following the ideals of Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya, the Haryana government was keen to ensure that benefits of welfare schemes percolated to the grassroots level.
While referring to the issue of reservation to the Jat community, he said that at present, the issue was in the high court and reservation should be given only to those who were weak and deserved it.
He also stressed the need for generating employment opportunities for the youth to keep a check on socio-economic disparities.
Speaking on the occasion, Haryana agriculture minister O P Dhankhar said there had been a constructive change in the thinking of the khaps with time. He said the khaps had been playing a great role in eradication of female foeticide and other social evils.
