Kidnapped Moga boy traced, reunited with parents; accused held

People of Mullanpur Dakha town in Ludhiana district caught a migrant and handed him over to the Moga police on Sunday as he had allegedly kidnapped a minor boy from Ramganj area here on Friday.

South city SHO Ravinder Singh said four-year-old Manjit Singh Nikku of Sardar Nagar was handed over to his parents.

“Accused Chalu Ram of Partapgarh district in Uttar Pradesh allegedly also practised as a sorcerer. The police had registered a case against unidentified persons for kidnapping; and the accused was at large,” the SHO said.

According to information, Ramesh Kumar, father of the victim, had complained to the SSP that Nikku went to the aaganwari centre on April 5 but did not return home. “We tried to look for him but in vain. People said while Nikku was on his way home, an unidentified man took him away and fled.,” Ramesh told the police.

The SHO said Chalu Ram boarded a train at Moga to go to Ludhiana, buy as they reached Mullanpur Dakha the boy started to cry. “Chalu left the boy there and fled. People informed the Moga police of the incident. People gathered there and nabbed Chalu,” he added.

SSP Gurpreet Singh Toor said the police had registered a case against Chalu and were examining the possibility of more kidnappers.

The SSP said a special police team had been constituted to nab such sorcerers.
