A 3-year-old girl, who had been kidnapped, was recovered from Anandpur Sahib late on Friday evening. The girl, Navneet Kaur, was handed over to her parents on Saturday.
The incident happened around 1:30 pm on Friday, when three persons travelling in a car kidnapped Navneet from near Longowal when she was coming back from school with her aunt Sandeep Kaur.
According to Sandeep, who teaches at Navneet's school, all the three accused had their faces covered. She said the accused intercepted her two-wheeler and when she was about to take a turn towards her village, one of the accused got down from the car and snatched Navneet from her.
Senior superintendent of police HS Bhullar said the police teams started a search operation in the periphery as soon as they were informed about the kidnapping.
"We sent wireless messages to the police chiefs of all the districts. Navneet photograph was also faxed to all the police stations. Even, police chief of a neighbouring district of Haryana was informed about the incident," said Bhullar.
Bhullar said around 10:30pm, the police got information that Gurdwara Keshgarh Sahib management had handed over the girl to Anandpur Sahib police. "A police team was sent immediately to bring back the girl to Sangrur," he said.
Bhullar said the motive of the kidnappers would be known only after their arrest. Navneet's family did not receive any ransom call.
"We have constituted a special investigation team headed by a superintendent of police, PS Goraya, to inquire into the matter and arrest the accused at the earliest," Bhullar said.
