Killer stretch claims another life, one sustain serious injuries

The killer stretch of Ropar-Nawanshahr-Phagwara of National Highway 344-A claimed one more life, while another was left seriously injured in a road accident near Balachaur on Friday, when the car in which they were travelling hit a bridge in order to save a negligent motorcyclist who appeared suddenly on the main road from a lane.

Deceased Gurdeep Singh (26), a resident of Kabir Nagar, Jalandhar was going to Chandigarh to drop his relatives who had come to meet them over the death of his nephew two days back.

Deceased's father Gurmit Singh said that Gurdeep was going to Chandigarh to drop some relatives who had come from Mumbai to mourn the death of his nephew in Naura village of Nawanshahr district.

Singh said when their Hyundai Verna car (PB-32-B-0062) reached near village Lohat, a motorcyclist took to main road suddenly and in order to save the latter, Gurdeep turned his car and hit into a bridge after a minor collision with another car on the main road.

After the accident, Gurdeep and his friend Arvinder Singh, who sustained serious injuries in the incident, were taken to Balachaur civil hospital from where they were referred to Nawanshahr private hospital where Gurdeep succumbed to his injuries. The body was sent to civil hospital for postmortem.

ASI Harjinder Singh said a case has been registered against unidentified motorcycle-borne under section 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 304a (whoever causes the death of any person by doing any rash or negligent act), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of IPC.
