Kin of dead woman block road, halt traffic

punjab Updated: Aug 19, 2014 00:09 IST

The family members and relatives of a 27-year-old married woman blocked the Nakodar road and protested for more than an hour on Monday evening, alleging the woman was killed for dowry.

Deceased Bakhshinder Kaur got married to Amarjit Singh, a resident of Guru Nanakpura (East), nearly four years ago.

Harjinder Singh, brother of the deceased said his sister's husband, Amarjit, called him at around 4.30 am to inform him that his sister had died due to some illness. He added that when the family reached Kaur's house, they saw her body had turned blue.

The family members alleged that despite repeated requests, neither did the police arrest Kaur's in-laws nor was a case registered for murder.

Family members of the deceased demanded a case be registered against Amarjit and his family members for killing their daughter. Only after much persuasion by the police did the protesters agree to lift the blockade.

Additional deputy commissioner of police-1 (ADCP), Naresh Kumar Dogra, reached the spot and assured the family members that justice would be delivered soon.
