Haryana Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Kiran Choudhary on Thursday accused the BJP government of "unwanted and inexplicable" delay in execution of the operation at Satlok Ashram to arrest sect head Rampal. The delay, she alleged, cost six lives and resulted in injuries to more than 200 people.
She asked in a press release, "Why did the state government not go after Rampal when the Punjab and Haryana High Court first issued non-bailable warrants against him on November 5, 2014? Instead, it let more than 20,000 of his followers enter the ashram for a congregation, and allowed Sant Rampal to build up a force to face the cops. Had the government acted with the promptitude the situation warranted, precious lives would have been saved."
The two-time former minister also flayed the government for police attacking mediapersons at the site that left 25 journalists injured.
