A labourer on Tuesday alleged that he was held captive by an ice cream factory owner on Monday for not returning `1,000.

Laman Das, a resident of Haibowal, in his complaint to the police commissioner said that he was working with Leo ice cream factory and used to sell ice cream on cart. He had borrowed `1,000 from the factory owner a few days ago but failed to return the money in time.

He alleged that on Monday the factory owner along with two other accomplices held him captive in factory and thrashed him badly that he had lost his conscious. Later, when his wife came to the factory to look for him the factory owner thrashed her too, the victim alleged.

Das alleged that he had also lodged a complaint at the Haibowal police station in this regard, but after getting no response, he then filed a complaint with the police commissioner.

Refuting the allegations, Deepak Mittal, the factory owner, said that on Monday night, Laman after depositing cart with the factory had gone away. Mittal claimed that he did not know what happened to him thereafter.

Inspector Amarjit Singh, station house officer at the Haibowal police station, said the police had been investigating the matter and would take appropriate action against the accused.
