Labourer killed, 2 hurt as scrap explodes at Mandi Gobindgarh factory

A labourer was killed and two others were injured as scrap exploded at a factory in Mandi Gobindgarh on Thursday.

According to police, the blast occurred at RK Enterprises around 5pm when Ram Janak Verma, 28, was trying to cut the scrap, which had arrived from Surat in Gujarat, with a gas-cutter and it exploded. He died on the spot.

While factory owner Varun Arora and helper Ram Singar Verma were injured. They were taken to the local civil hospital, where Arora was referred to Apollo Hospital, Ludhiana, while Ram Singar was sent to Rajindra Hospital, Patiala.

Deceased Ram Janak was a native of Uttar Pradesh; so is Ram Singar; while Arora is a local.

SSP Harcharan Singh Bhullar, SP (detective) Rajwinder Singh Sohal, DSP Purshotam Singh Bal and SHO Guriqbal Singh reached the spot.

Bhullar said a forensic team had been called to find out the reason of the blast. Ram Janak’s body was sent to the civil hospital for post-mortem.
