A minor family dispute turned into a tragedy when a migrant labourer strangulated his wife to death in Malerkotla town of the district on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Reena (30), wife of Shiya Ram, resident of Jamnehi village of Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh. Reena leaves behind her two children- Rohit (11) and Mohit (9).

When contacted Malerkotla, DSP William Jeji, said that the case had been registered in Malerkotla (city 2) police station. The police had formed three teams to nab Shiya Ram, who fled away after killing his wife.

Shiya Ram is a migrant labourer working in a factory in Malerkotla. He returned from his native village in UP on Saturday.

Shiya Ram's neighbor Dawarika Parsad told the police that Shiya Ram's elder son, Rohit (11) came to watch television at his residence, when he went back to his house he found that his mother was lying unconscious. Then the boy called Dawarika, who called the police.

The police have sent the body for post-mortem and a case under section 302 has been registered against Shiya Ram on the charge of murder.
