Landless man ends life, third case in four days

A landless labourer, facing severe financial crunch, committed suicide by hanging himself with a ceiling fan at Chak Fateh Singh Wala village on Thursday morning.

The victim, identified as Makhan Singh, 38, hanged himself at about 7 am when his family members were not at home.

Investigation officer, head constable Darshan Singh at Bhucho police post, said that the victim's wife Sukhjit Kaur has recorded her statement and said that he was undergoing stress due to poor financial condition and hanged himself with the fan when she had gone to a nearby shop.

It is third case of suicide here due to poor financial condition and debt. On Tuesday, farmer Makhan Singh had committed suicide by jumping before a train near Guru Hargobind Thermal Power Plant at Lehra Mohabatt. As per his brother's statement with the police that he was under a loan of Rs 4 lakh.

Another farmer Balbir Chand had committed suicide by hanging himself with a tree in his fields at Balianwali on Wednesday. He too was under stress due to a loan as per the statement of his wife with the police.
