Congress Working Committee member and Punjab Congress affairs incharge Gulchain Singh Charak on Sunday said a state party delegation would soon meet the Prime Minister and the union home minister to press for sending a central government team to assess the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab.
Charak, addressing a press conference here, alleged that the assistant sub-inspector's broad-daylight murder in Amritsar while trying to save his daughter from being harassed by Akali workers had surpassed all limits of deterioration of law and order.
"Let the central team visit the state and recommend an action plan for ensuring the safety and security of people. The Punjab Congress will also raise this issue in the Vidhan Sabha session beginning on Monday. The Congress legislature party has already been briefed about the same," he said.
"Besides, defining the jurisdiction of police subdivisions as per assembly constituencies to make deputy superintendents of police tools in the hands of ruling combine MLAs or constituency incharges has played spoilsport for peace in the state," Charak added.
