The Chandigarh police are making efforts to identify the woman, who, as per eyewitnesses, sped away in a car from the crime spot in connection with the murder of 36-year-old lawyer Sukhmanpreet Singh Talwandi, aka Sippy Sidhu. Sippy was shot dead in a Sector 27 park on Sunday night.
The police have also formed a special investigation team led by UT senior superintendent of police Sukhchain Singh Gill.
The investigators are focusing on the victim’s woman friends who were in touch with him over the phone or otherwise. The police have procured the call details of the victim and learnt that he was in touch with three women —one from a well-heeled family of Chandigarh; another from Mansa in Punjab, who is currently staying as a paying guest in Sector 27; and the third from Delhi.
The police have already recorded the statement of Delhi-based woman, who was in touch with Sippy Sidhu over the phone on the day he was murdered.
The police said their main aim was to establish the identity of the woman who was present at the crime spot.
The police officials were trying to procure the CCTV camera footage from Sector 19 light point and other cameras installed at various locations in the city.
Meanwhile, the footage of a CCTV camera installed at a house near the crime spot in Sector 27 showed a Maruti Zen car crossing the adjoin road. The police trying to identify the car by scanning the footage taken from other cameras.
The police were trying to open the locks of Sippy’s phones. His second phones was recovered from his house in SAS Nagar.
Inspector general of police RP Upadhyaya held a meeting with the officials investigating the case. The meeting was also attended by SSP Gill.
Sippy was friends with Chandigarh woman for years
The police said they have come to know that Sippy Sidhu was friends with a woman belonging to a well-heeled family of Chandigarh. Sources said Sippy initially was contemplating to marry her, but changed his mind lately. The police said they would record her statement.
Mansa woman summoned
The police said they had summoned the woman staying as paying guest in Sector 27 and belonging to Mansa in Punjab. Her questioning is being seen as crucial as the crime too had occurred in the sector where she had been staying.
Delhi woman questioned
The police questioned a Delhi woman who was in constant touch with Sippy over the phone. The police said her statement was being examined minutely.
Watched movie with fiancée
The police said on Sunday, Sippy Sidhu had lunch with his SAS Nagar-based fiancée’ in Sector 26 and then they had gone to watch a movie at Elante mall from 4pm to 7pm. As per the police, after dropping the woman at SAS Nagar, he left for Chandigarh saying he had an appointment.
The police said they were trying to procure footage of CCTV cameras installed along the roads to find out if someone was following Sippy or not.
