The troubles of dismissed Machhiwara station house officer (SHO) inspector Manjinder Singh and his driver, Sukhbir Singh, are set to increase, as the police have initiated proceedings to declare them proclaimed offenders (POs) in the case about the September 27 killing of two brothers here.
In the proclamation notice, the police have reported them still on the run. If they are not arrested or they do not surrender, they could be declared PO. The dismissed SHO is booked under Section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence, giving false information to screen offender) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
His driver and he are booked since the killing of brothers Jatinder Singh and Harinder Singh, who were from Buapur village near Machhiwara. Sukhbir Singh and was deployed at the Sarabha Nagar police station but instead of joining duty there, had remained with the inspector.
The police have information that on September 27, the driver had accompanied the raiding police party with Akali leader Gurjit Singh that had gunned down the two brothers.
Police commissioner Pramod Ban has confirmed the development about the proceedings being on to declare the cops POs. On December 5, the police had raided the SHO's house on the Barewal road and also searched for him at TarnTaran.
The brothers were gunned down at their rented accommodation in Jamalpur's Ahluwalia Colony here. Four of the accused (Shiromani Akali Dal leader Gurjit Singh; constable Yadwinder Singh; and Home Guards jawans Baldev Singh and Ajit Singh) were arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
